Masonry

Patios, walkways, steps, and walls in stone and paver, built with real craftsmanship.

Masonry

Good masonry is mostly what you don't see: the excavation, the base, and the drainage that keep stone flat and walls plumb through New Jersey's freeze-thaw winters. We build patios, walkways, steps, and walls the right way underneath, so the part you do see stays beautiful.

Masonry is a fast-growing part of Genie, and it's owner-built: the same people who quote the project set the stone. And because we're a landscaping company first, the planting, the lawn, and the grades around the finished work get tied in properly instead of left for someone else.

What we build

  • Stone and paver patios
  • Walkways and steps
  • Retaining walls and garden walls
  • Stonework tied into plantings and grades

Every masonry project starts with a free on-site estimate: we look at the grade, the drainage, and the access, and give you a clear scope and price.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between masonry and hardscaping?

They overlap. We use masonry for the stone-and-paver craft itself: patios, walkways, steps, and walls. Hardscaping covers the bigger site picture around them: grading, drainage, and outdoor living spaces. On most projects we're doing both, as one job with one crew.

Do I need a permit for a wall?

It depends on your township and the wall's height and location; taller walls often need engineering and a permit. We help you confirm what your township requires before the project starts, so there are no surprises.

Can you work around existing landscaping?

Yes, and it's one of the advantages of hiring a landscaping company for the stonework: we protect what stays, and we can replant and re-mulch around the finished work so the project looks complete, not like a construction site.
